new band, new members, change is great !

hey, haven't been on here in a while, giselle and I are in a new band called throwups, it's sort of an amalgam of all the music we like. There's 2 new guys in the band, james and d a (d a sings in the 20's), two of the greatest people ever, I'm so grateful to be in a band with all three of them, james has been introducing me to metal bands, which is an entirely new thing for me, I've picked up albums by pantera, van halen, iron maiden, black sabbath and they're pretty fuckin' good. Well, anyways, our first show is on the 31st at churchill's, it's going to be great, so many bands are playing and it's a nice meshing of different bands, hope to see you there !

noveltype: Behind The Music

Hey everybody, haven't updated in a long while, so here it goes: noveltype left on the second part of our tour, we played the show in Tallahasee and realized that in order to get to the next show in Texas, we would have to drive through the pattern of this hurricane. After argument after argument it took my mom and dad calling to make us realize we should turn back, so we went back to Pensacola and spent another two days there. Okay, before I continue here's a little backstory, before we left, ruben had talked to me about kicking giselle out of noveltype, which he had done numerous times in random moments of anger, but this time he was serious and asked me if I would stay in noveltype if he kicked her out, of course being the optimist, I said yes. Okay, before you start calling me an asshole, I said yes because I still had the hope that ruben would see how great giselle was on the tour we were leaving on, and if I said no that would've been the end of it, no tour, no chance of him seeing the good in giselle and most importantly: NO noveltype. Anyway, so ruben finally on the last day we're in Pensacola, while we're in the car, says to me that now is the time he's going to tell her she's out. Noveltype fact: "There should be no need for a side project if you're in noveltype, because you should be able to do anything you want to do in noveltype." Well, I wanted to be in a band with giselle, so I felt I needed to break that rule, unfortunatley ruben wouldn't budge, so I went with giselle, and that was the end of me and giselle in noveltype.

**for this picture and more visit the photobucket (www.photobucket.com), then type in novelbucket in the search bar.**

Tour

Hey, we're back from the first part of our tour. It was great for the most part: we met some great people, slept in a tent, played shows in places we've never been, slept in the van, stayed with some great people, slept in some super 8's and came home. All in all, it was the greatest experience of my life and I'm grateful I'm able to do this. We played, in my opinion, reasonably well at all the shows, saw some cool bands, got another copy of the first foo fighters cd, got a fucking awesome nirvana photo book, bought Giselle a Descendents cd (and she liked it !!), met Ruben's new sister, got interviewed in Vermont (kind of weird), learned a little more about myself and others and returned home to find out my former high school principal was arrested for soliciting sex in a park (which I'm totally indifferent towards but it was a nice little welcome home). It's nice to be home.

Hey it's Bob Dylan's birthday !! If you do not own a Bob Dylan album, first hit yourself. Then, go buy a Bob Dylan album, it really doesn't matter which one, they're all amazing, my favorite is "The Freewheelin'". Bob Dylan is responsible for every band that came after him, from The Beatles to Fugazi (not bad huh)and continues to be relevant to the musical climate, no matter how it changes.

HAPPY 64 BOB !!!

56 DAYS !!!!!

Smells like crazy to me

I've always been really interested in smells. Not smells in general, but the way people smell. it's a very weird thing, how someone's smell can make you feel very comfortable and someone else's smell can make you extremely uncomfortable. In fact that's how I judge my first impressions of people, and I've found this works, because every time I ignore it, I wish I hadn't. It's also weird when you're in a certain area, like a car and one person gets in, their scent fills up the car, but let's say someone else gets in the car, their scents don't mix, the person's scent who gets in fills the car, The only way I can tell when the scents are neutral is when I can smell the other person's scent again.
Happy Birthday Kira !!

Today is Kira Roessler's birthday, She was the bassist for Black Flag from 1984-86 and most people are surprised that Black Flag ever had a female bassist because punk music is, for some reason, thought to be a male-driven sport. Anyway, she is an amazing musician and is also a strong woman, not just emotionally either; when Black Flag was on tour, a man tried to rape her in the bathroom of a club and she beat the shit out of him, and an ambulance had to take him out (she's so awesome!). On top of that, the guy had broken her hand and she played the show that night, then went to the hospital. She's also gorgeous.

http://www.citizinemag.com/music/music-0311_kiraroessler.htm

If you don't know who the other guy in the picture is, go buy "double nickels on the dime" !
Hopes and Dreams

I would never dream of noveltype having the same impact as Fugazi. I just hope we can be a footnote in the history of music, and I think if we go about it honestly and give every ounce of our beings, we could begin to dream of having that chance. Bands like Black Flag, The Minutemen, the other bands on SST etc., traveled around in a van tour after tour with no one knowing who they were, (most people still don't) and because of that they have the respect of people for being able to do that; being totally fearless about doing whatever it takes to play their music and expose people to that music regardless of whether they didn't know where their next meal was coming from, or whether people would like them, or anything other than giving everything they had at those shows. I just want to affect people in a positive way with our music, then it will all be worth it, then when I'm forty, fighting just to get by and wondering why I do it, I'll know why.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY IGGY POP !!!
58 AND STILL GIVING OFF THE ENERGY OF A TEENAGER !!!

89 DAYS !!!!

C'mon Get Happy !!

So, Pensacola was a louder place on friday, we sold 7 cd's which made me feel like we had a gold record. My Big Muff performed spectacularly and Ruben broke the stage after surfing on it for a couple minutes, it was fun, but my stomach was still hurting. My birthday was spent driving home, but whatever, at least I was with people I care about, which is what a birthday is about anyway. Amazingly, my stomach stopped hurting thanks to two amazing women who made me dinner last night, I won't try to explain it, because I don't know how to. This morning I felt like I woke up from a really bad dream I've been having for a month, thank god it's over.

3 MONTHS 6 DAYS !!!

It's my birthday on sunday and I'll be 21, but I don't drink so it really isn't that exciting. I was remembering what I thought life would be like at 21: college, girlfriends, keggers and other "saved by the bell" fantasies, but I never imagined I'd be in a band about to go on tour, so it's better than those fantasies (still wouldn't mind having a girlfriend). My stomach has been hurting consistently for 2 weeks. I was really annoyed at practice yesterday, and I have no idea why, something's up but I don't know what. In other news I got a Big Muff, Pensacola is going to be a louder place on friday.

3 MONTHS 12 DAYS !!!

Decisions, Decisions

It's a weird feeling to tell people what you want to do in life and them look at you like you're stupid. I'm quitting my job (the best job i've ever had), I'm selling my car (let me know if you're interested) and I'm almost completely ignoring anything that isn't band related, and viewing those things as distractions. The odd thing is that I'm the happiest I've ever been, but at the same time the most stressed I've ever been. Suddenly, shows and practices mean a lot more than they used to. If I mess up at practice or a show, I take it as a character flaw and beat myself up over it. The band has become the reason to take a shower, go to work, buy a cd, listen to a cd, or anything else for that matter. I'm trying to take care of everything before I leave, but I know I'm going to forget something really important. That bothers me because if everything goes as I want it to, I'm not coming back for a long time, or ever for that matter. But hey, i get to play music for the rest of my life !! And I still have what matters most (yeah, those two).
